7/20/13 - Lompoc, CA

We thought we would go visit a few wineries today but the tastings are too expensive for what you get.  We drove to Los Olivas and had a tasting of 3 wines for $5.00 at the Andrew Murray tasting room.  These tastings are barely a sip, just about one small swallow.  Most of the wineries charged $10.00 for their tastings.  Jim and I bought a bottle from Andrew Murray’s new line.  It cost $16.00, so with the tasting we spent $26.00 for one bottle of wine. Years ago when we were here most of the wineries would apply the price of your tasting to your purchase of a bottle.  I think we will stick to breweries from now on -- you get more for your money.

We went back to the Casita and Jim changed into his swimsuit.  Then we drove to the beach.  Both beaches by Lompoc were closed due to the Western Plover nesting season, from May – September.  On the way back to the Casita we stopped at a Dollar General Market.  This was a brand new store just opened 3 months ago.  Most Dollar General stores have a few grocery items but this one has a large selection -- they even have fresh produce and fresh meat.  We sat outside for a while and then I fixed supper. The RV park is full tonight.  At 8 pm we sat in the Casita and watched the people on both sides of us use hatchets to cut parts of the trees down to use in their campfires.  Absolutely unbelievable!
