Today we got up early and drove to Jacob Lake,
Arizona. We got a campsite in the
Kaibab National Forest. There are no
hookups and we have pit toilets. We
unhooked and drove to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Jim and I have been to the South Rim a
couple of times. We also went to the
part of the Grand Canyon that you have to go on the Indian Reservation to get
to. This was a long time before they
built the Sky Walk over the Grand Canyon there. Martha, Amelia, Jim and I were the only ones there and we only
saw one Indian. We asked him for
directions to get to the edge of the canyon.
Our first stop was at the visitor center and then we walked to the Grand Canyon Lodge. They have two really nice porches facing the
canyon with chairs. We walked to a
couple of lookouts by the Inn and then walked the trail to Angel Point. It was sunny when we first got here but the
clouds started rolling in. We sat on
the porch and drank a couple of beers while enjoying the scenery. We took a 20 mile drive and
stopped at the vista points. At the end
of the drive was Royal Point and Angels Window. We walked out onto both points.
Angels Window was beautiful and scary.
The edge of the cliff is almost in a circle around you. We drove the 45 miles back to our camp and sat outside until it got tot cold for us.
