Jim researched places to drink some good beer and then we went to Stone Brewing at the old Naval Training Grounds. The Navy closed this compound and now it is all shops and restaurants. My brother was sent here for basic training when he joined the Navy and was here for 9 months training in radio communications. They still have barracks numbers on the buildings. After leaving here we went to Ocean Beach Pier on the Pacific Ocean. We walked a block over to Pizza Port Brewing and had another beer. Jim had their Skid Mark Brown Ale (which won a Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Festival last year) and I had a saison. Then we went back to the beach to watch the sunset.
7/8/13 - San Diego, CA
When we left Yuma this morning at 9:45 am it was
99 degrees. While we were driving it
got up to 107 degrees at 11:30 am.
After driving over the In-Ko-Pah Mountains and over the Tecate Divide
half way between Yuma and San Diego, the temperature dropped dramatically. At 1 pm it was 93 degrees and when we got to
the RV park in San Diego the temperature was 78 degrees. What a refreshing change from the last two
weeks. We drove past the Algodones sand
dunes and we saw smoke from a nearby wildfire they are calling the Chariot Fire.
Just outside Yuma into California we drove by the Official Center of the
World. You can read about it on Road
Side American.com - http://www.roadsideamerica.com/story/2036.
