9/4/13 - Amarillo, TX

We talked to our neighbor this morning -- he was from Texas near Marble Falls.  Then we hooked up and drove east.  We stopped  at
Capulin Volcano National Monument.  This is a cinder cone volcano that erupted about 60,000 years ago.  We watched the movie but didn’t drive to the top of the volcano.  We drove up there before and we would have had to unhook the Casita to drive it today.  We drove on to Amarillo and got a site at AOK RV park.  This is a minimal RV park.  It has full hookups and nothing else.  You pay across the street at the gas station and they don’t even ask for any information.  No site number, vehicle ID or anything.  Just pay  $11.00 and you’re in.

After unhooking we drove 5 miles back down the road to Big Texas Steak House.  This is a famous Route 66 tourist trap -- home of the free 72 oz. steak if you can eat it in one hour with all the fixins’.  They have a brewery and we had two beers each and talked to a local.  We drove back to the Casita and I cooked supper.  We’re back in Texas!  But not for long -- we are just passing through the panhandle.  Tomorrow we will visit Kim and Steve in Oklahoma City.
