We left Lorna’s around 8:30 this morning. We made a stop at Walmart in Livermore to
pick up a few items and to get a 40th birthday card for my son. His birthday is August 9th and I
wanted to make sure the card made it in time.
Jim wanted to stay at a campground in Yosemite.
When we got to the west side entrance the ranger
told him that three campgrounds on Tioga Road had some camping spots left. When we got to them none were
available. So we drove Tioga Road to
the east entrance and out of the park.
This took most of the day. We
stopped at a few places to take pictures but most pull outs didn’t have room
for us. When we got to the east
entrance the altitude at Tioga Pass was 9,945 feet. We started down and had to stop two times to let the brakes cool
off. Jim also dumped out all of our
water to reduce weight.
We drove to Inyo National Forest, June Lake and
got a site for the night at Oh! Ridge campground. It was 7 pm before we got set up. Jim and I hadn’t had anything to eat since breakfast so we sat
outside and snacked on chips and salsa and had a beer. We were glad to be somewhere for the night.
